2018 Cabrinha XCaliber Wood vs Carbon
The shape on the XCaliber is the same between the wood and carbon versions. The difference lies within the material, wood vs carbon. We’ve rode each model for the past year in the 138cm size. We’ll go through the differences between the two.
Check out our updated post on the 2021 Cabrinha XCaliber boards here.
Carbon is a stiffer material so the carbon model responds differently on the water than the wood version. For load and pop both perform excellent due to the overall shape, bottom structure and rocker of the board. The carbon has a snappier pop off the water. If you’re looking to maximize your pop and want to ride as aggressively as possible, you’ll want the carbon. The wood has a much smoother feel on the water and the landings are softer.
Both boards are great for freeriding but have different characteristics for different styles of riding. The wood will have a smoother feel, it’ll cut through the chop easier and absorb more of the bumps on the water. The carbon will allow you to feel more on the water and will respond quicker to any input.
Cabrinha Carbon XCaliber
The 2018 Cabrinha Carbon XCaliber is different than previous years carbon model. They’re using a different type of carbon material that’s noticeably lighter than previous years. Compared to other carbon boards on the market, this years carbon XCaliber stands as one of the lightest. The way the carbon is laid out provides some flex to the board, its not going to be the stiffest carbon board on the market. The shape is slightly different which equates to a smoother riding board with more pop. Whether you’re unhooking or staying hooked in, the Carbon XCaliber is a fun board to ride with massive pop.
Cabrinha Wood XCaliber
The wood version of the XCaliber is great if you’re someone who unhooks and stays hooked in that prefers a smooth riding board with great pop and soft landings. It may not be as light as the carbon version but compared to older wood boards, this board is light. The overall shape is great for everything from freeriding, to hooked in and unhooked freestyle.
