Name: Anthony Franchi
Years Kiteboarding: 9
Born and raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts I developed a love for sailing and watersports. The summers never were long enough so snowboarding filled the gap during the winter time. On a family vacation to a Caribbean island in 1999, I witnessed someone kiteboarding. Kiteboarding combined my love of sailing and boardsports together. I went home from that trip needing to learn how to kiteboard. It wasn’t until 2008 when I first learned and from that point on I was addicted.
Since then kiteboarding has taken me to some unique places around the world where I’ve had the opportunity to make friends with people from different cultures. Out of the many places I’ve travelled to kiteboard, St Petersburg Florida remains my favorite and I’m happy to call this place my home. From October through May we have the ideal conditions for learning how to kiteboard and progressing as a rider. There’s an endless amount of shallow flat water on both sides of Tampa Bay and the wind remains consistent throughout the year.
Kiteboarding is a journey and my passion in life is sharing this journey with other people. I began teaching when I ran the kiteboarding program at Eckerd College from 2011 – 2013. Since graduation I’ve managed the first and oldest kiteboarding shop in Tampa Bay, Watersports West. Today, I work towards building the most professional kite school in the Bay area. Kiteboarding is a sport that anyone can do, but be careful, it is addicting!
