The World Kiteboarding League (WKL) is an organization created by the riders to promote professional kiteboarding as a whole. The drive to create WLK was due to the attempt of multiple organizations to individually run professional kiteboarding, but unfortunately all they did was dilute the value of becoming a World Champion. Founded by Youri Zoon, Alex Pastor, Annelous Lammerts and Liam Whaley, their mission was simple – to support the riders and the fans by organizing the sport of professional kiteboarding.
The Future of Professional Kiteboarding
Kiteboarding is exciting to watch for both kiteboarders and non kiteboarders. The WKL aims to bring professional kiteboarding to a larger audience. The latest event, Mondial du Vent, was available to view for free on the WKL Facebook page livestream. The Finals livestream was viewed by over 66,000 people around the world. The livestream was well done with slow motion replays and commentary by Youri Zoon. Youri helped break down the tricks so that someone who may not know every technical handle pass move could understand and appreciate the extreme tricks the riders were doing. The WKL did an excellent job covering the event so that people around the world could watch from home.
If the WKL continues to cover the pro events this year with the same high quality filming, professional commentating, and instant replays then it is almost guaranteed that more people will watch.

How’s It Judged?
The event has been simplified to heats of four riders and the top two riders progress to the next round. The riders have seven attempts and their top four tricks are added together for their overall score. Whichever two riders have the highest overall score move on to the next round.
The WKL then broke down the various tricks with slow motion replays and commentary on why certain tricks scored higher than others. After each trick, they showed the replay with the trick name and what the judges scored that trick.
Shout out to all the riders involved in the WLK Mondial du Vent – great job!
