In this post we’ll do an overview of the 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim Bar. We’ll look at what changes were made from 2019 to 2020 and some of the key functions. We’ll show you the safety systems this bar offers. One feature we like that we’ll talk about is how to tune this bar. Cabrinha has worked towards constructing a simple, easy to use control bar that is lightweight and durable.
2019 vs 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim Bar
The Overdrive System
The first big difference between the 2019 and 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim Bar is the overdrive system. From 2014 to 2019, Cabrinha used a metal mechanism on the bar ends to have the bar adjust into two positions. Over the years we never personally saw the metal mechanisms fail but felt it added additional weight to the bar. The 2019 Cabrinha Overdrive bar weighs 2.94 lbs and the 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim bar weighs 2.54 lbs. On the 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive bar, theres a plastic compartment on bar ends that adjusts the bars position. This piece is simple and when adjusted on both ends, changes the bar’s length 8cm.

Changing the bar length changes the kite’s turning speed. Having a wider bar will make the kite turn quicker. A more narrow bar will create a slower turning kite. We recommend a more narrow bar when learning new tricks to prevent oversteering the kite. A wider bar is nice when practicing kite loops or to get the most speed out of your kite. Experiment with the different bar widths to find whats right for you.
The Bar Handle
Cabrinha added much more detail in the bar handle to provide a more comfortable grip. The bar is slightly bigger and more form fitting to your grip. The quality and detail are high and among the highest standards on the market.
The Safety System
Cabrinha’s safety system has come a long way from the 2014 bars. They continue to use a center line flagging system. The safety leash gets attached directly to the flag line that runs through the depower main line. To keep everything in good working order, we recommending rinsing the bar after each session. The red plastic piece of the chicken loop with an arrow is the push away. To eject or release the kite, push this red piece away and let go of the bar.
Tuning 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim Bar
Our favorite function of the 2020 Cabrinha Overdrive Trim bar is how easy it is to tune the bar. Over time, the centers lines will stretch out. This is normal on every bar on the market because the center lines absorb most of the energy. Cabrinha has made it incredibly easy to tune this bar. Pull the overdrive plastic piece on the bar ends out until the three knots are exposed. The other two knots will allow you to lengthen the outside lines to compensate for the center line stretch.
Bar Maintenance
No matter what bar you have, rinse it with fresh water. Maybe once a month, let the bar soak in soapy water for 5-10 minutes. This will help clean the lines and keep all the parts in good working order. If the winds are light, test out your safety system to make sure everything works and you’re familiar with it. Sometimes sand or dirt will get in the depower mainline so cleaning it or ejecting will help assure everything operates smooth.
