2021 Cabrinha Conta Changes
From 2019 to 2020 the Cabrinha Contra underwent a design change. The most noticeable features are a lighter feel in the bar pressure, quicker turning and a better tuned kite. One of the main design changes Cabrinha went for was a quicker turning kite. The 2021 Cabrinha Contra turns much quicker than the older models. This adds to the fun characteristic when going for jumps. The redesign for a quicker turning kite also resulted in a kite that is more well-tuned. What this means is that this kite is less likely to stall out of the sky. Another way to look at it is that a kiteboarder can have the bar pulled all the way in and still fly the kite better than in previous models.
2021 Cabrinha Contra 15m Versatility
One of the best functions of the 2021 Cabrinha Contra 15m is the versatility of the kite. It truly is a kite a beginner and professional kiteboarder can progress on. We have taught hundreds of hours with the Contra and can safely say this kite helps expedite a kiteboarder’s progression. Qualities that make this kite excellent for beginners is that it is responsive to bar input, easy to water relaunch, and stable when riding. Together these qualities save time on frustrating scenarios like trying to put the board on one’s feet or getting the kite to water relaunch in lightwinds.
An intermediate to an advanced level kiteboarder looking to jump big and progress aerial tricks will enjoy this kite! The two qualities that stand out the most are the quicker turning characteristics and better tuned kite. Most kiteboarders attribute a “fun” kite with a fast turning kite. The 2021 Cabrinha Contra 15m with the 52cm Overdrive bar is a perfect combination for a kite that is still fun to maneuver. A quicker turning kite makes it possible to jump higher. The 15m size is perfect for kiteboarders looking to ride overpowered and perform board-off aerial tricks.
Advanced level kiteboarders looking to perform complex freestyle maneuvers will enjoy the better tuned characteristics of the newer model Contras. This kite is less likely to stall than older models making it possible to advanced freestyle tricks like a KGB or Backmobe. Although beginners may not care about doing these tricks, the better tuned kite will still help in basic functions such as parking the kite and riding.
Not For Everyone
The 2021 Cabrinha Contra may be a versatile kite, it is not for everyone. Foilboarders or surfers will not get the best sessions on the 3-strut Contra. The reason is that there is a lot of pull and power this kite generates. Since hyrdofoils are so effective at creating power, a big kite is not needed. Cabrinha took the efficiency concept of the Contra and applied it to smaller sizes with one strut known as the 1-strut Contra. This concept is new for Cabrinha in 2021 and we have not had enough sessions on this kite to make an analysis. Another option for surfers is the Drifter. This kite is fantastic for both surfing and freeride foilboarding. It is a light flying kite with little bar pressure and amazing drift characteristics.
