You don’t need a foilboard to have fun in lightwinds! We wanted to see just how much fun we can have with a twintip board and a big kite. We took out a 160cm Cabrinha Stylus and the new 2020 Cabrinha Contra 15m kite. Winds were 8-12 kts and rider weight is 160 lbs. Here are 5 beginner tricks for lightwinds.
Trick One: Downloops
Best time to practice or learn how to downloop is in light winds! Really focus on pulling one side of the bar in while pushing out on the other side of the bar. Heres our more in depth breakdown of how to downloop.

Trick Two: Toeside
It may be difficult to ride toeside for long runs in lightwinds but its good practice. Once riding toeside try to feel the weight on your toes and drive the front of the board into the wind.

Trick Three: Load and Pop
This is a perfect time to dial in on your load and pop. Getting the right technique on board control and balancing bar tension is critical. The better your load and pops are, the better your jumps will be. Stay tuned for a breakdown of how to load and pop.
Trick Four: Backrolls
You do not need much height for a backroll. A big kite and a big board will get you spinning around. Once you feel the muscle memory in lightwinds, you can practice going bigger in stronger winds.

Trick Five: Front Rolls
Front rolls are more difficult than a backroll. You have to rotate more than you would a backroll, so you need more height on your jumps. Not much more height, just a little. It’s important not to over-send the kite.
