4 Reasons to go with an IKO Instructor
- Safety | Part of the IKO instructor training is learning how to create a safe environment for the student, other riders and beach-goers.
- Learn Faster | Practice fun and relevant exercises that are customized to the way you learn so that you will progress faster.
- Retain What You Learn | Instructors are trained to not just teach you how to complete a task but to remember how and why you did it.
- Stronger Foundation | Throughout the lesson there’s a strong focus on the fine motor skills that will make you a great kiteboarder.
Our mission is to make you a safe and independent kiteboarder.
Learning to kiteboard in three easy steps
Step One: Kite Control
Your first kiteboarding lesson is the most important lesson. This is where you create a solid foundation to maneuvering the kite. You learn all the necessary skills to proficiently fly the kite. We’ll work to develop your muscle memory so that you can operate the kite without having to look at it. We provide all the gear needed for your kiteboarding lesson.
Step Two: Riding
Once you develop the muscle memory of operating the kite, the second stage of your lessons is being able to proficiently ride the board. We’ll work on how to waterstart, riding posture, riding upwind and transitions. The goal for new riders is to be able to ride and stay upwind. What this means is that you’re able to go out and be able to get back to the point where you started from. We have a waverunner we use to make your time on the water more valuable.
Step Three: Independent Rider
The third and final step is to be an independent rider. This lesson applies everything you’ve learned up to this point in one session. It’s designed to give you the confidence to rig at any location and be able to enjoy a kiteboarding session.
If you already have experience
If you have kiteboarding experience, whether that be with a trainer kite or with lessons somewhere else, we’ll take your riding to the next level. We will pick up where you left off and cover anything you may have missed. Our goal is to give you the confidence to safely and proficiently kiteboard on your own.
Lessons Location
We do lessons from the Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg to Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs. The location we choose is a shallow, flat water spot. The exact location is determined by the direction of the wind.
