There should be plenty of wind this week! As of Monday July 8th theres a trough of low pressure over central Georgia thats making its way south into the Gulf of Mexico. The waters are warm so development into a stronger storm is likely. NHC has this area of low pressure at an 80% chance of development over the next 5 days.
Wind and rain. Yes, there will be wind but there will also be rain. We do not believe that it will rain all day, every day but there will be storms to watch out for. Tracking the storms will be day to day.
How Windy?
Tuesday and Wednesday should have 15-20 kts of wind. Beyond that remains to be unseen. Things to consider are where the storm will go. If it travels south then west, the low pressure will move away from us and winds should stay in the 15-20 kt range. If the storm stays stagnant or drifts more east then we can see higher winds, 25 kts +. Another thing to consider is how strong the storm will develop. This is something we’re planning on watching carefully over the next few days.

Going Kiteboarding
Make sure to check the radars before going out! You do not want to be stuck in a storm. Even while kiteboarding practice situational awareness. Know what direction the storms are going and keep an eye out for darker clouds.
For checking the storms we use Klystron 9 Radar
For checking the wind in real time and the forecast we use iKitesurf
Kiteboarding Lessons
We do plan on teaching this week but the way we’re going to schedule lessons is through general times. We’ll set time aside in advance and in the morning of the lesson schedule a specific time based on the weather.
