We’ve been in a classic spring pattern recently with east winds in the morning and an afternoon sea breeze later in the day. This weekend we expect an increase in the easterly wind. With stronger east winds in place, it will be harder for the NW sea breezes to form in the afternoon. The beaches may still get a sea breeze later in the day, however, the Skyway Bridge may not get them.
Forecast
Friday – East winds in the morning around 15 mph until about 10am. Winds become light throughout the day until an hour before sunset when the east wind will pick up again. If a sea breeze forms, the first place to show will be the Clearwater Beach Pier sensor on Ikitesurf. St Pete Beach will see the sea breeze about an hour after it picks up in Clearwater.
2 pm update:
Saturday – Stronger east winds in the morning 15-20 mph dropping to 10 mph later in the morning. A sea breeze will try to form but may not be able to form because of the stronger east winds. An hour to two hours before sunset the wind will pick up again out of the east.
Sunday – Easterly wind in the morning 14-18 mph until about 10am. East winds subside and a stronger sea breeze will form later in the day out of the NW.
